Winter Training Camp

Winter Training Camp

February 10th, 2018

To escape the midst of the Scottish winter Saints Golf once again embarked on a 2 week winter training camp.

The venue this year was Florida with the impressive IMG Academy in Bradenton being the base for 10 days of intensive practice and play. Prior to arriving at the Academy however we were treated to two days of wonderful golf at Lake Nona and Interlachan CC courtesy of 600 Club members Micheal Clary and Wayne Helsby. Having the chance to play on such well conditioned courses and with some fantastic people was the ideal start to the trip, we cannot thank Michael and Wayne enough for their hospitality.

Leaving Orlando and heading south to Bradenton we set ourselves up for a well planned and hard working camp that should set us up well for the forthcoming season. The facilities at IMG are perfect with a huge range, great turf and an expansive short game area. Add to that a massive state of the art gym and fantastic eating arrangements and you have the ideal base for a camp. The Academy also has a good course with a testing layout which we used for an internal end of camp tournament, winning the men’s and ladies event were George Burns and Lieve van Veggel respectively.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip so successful.

  • “For over 600 years the town of St Andrews and the University of St Andrews have had a seamless partnership that celebrates the legacy, tradition, and values that bind them together. This standard of excellence is seen through the prism of the Golf Programme.”

  • “I am proud to support the golf program at the University of St Andrews. The Home of Golf is an iconic place where the history, values and the tradition of the game are intertwined with the culture of the town and the people who reside there.”

  • “I decided to start supporting the University of St Andrews golf programs about five years ago. I thought I could help make a difference for these programs by financially helping you start a golf donor program. I'm very proud that you have used my funds to create a Saints Golf Website to help you get the word out.”
