Golf Application Process

Should you be interested in joining the Saints Golf programme you are encouraged to contact the Director of Golf as early in your application process to the University as possible.

General membership to the programme is open to all students who wish to play competitive golf at the University, the membership fee in 2018/19 was £50. Should a player have a desire to become part of the supported Performance Squad we would initially be looking for the following information:

  • WAGR Ranking (if applicable)
  • Exact Handicap
  • 2 year tournament record and stroke average details
  • Notable achievements
  • References

If we believe a player has the potential to be part of the Performance Squad then they will be invited to join our Pre-Season Training Camp, typically held at the end of August. Here they will be assessed by the coaches and this, in conjunction with the information gathered above, will be used to determine selection. A squad announcement will be made just before the beginning of the new academic year.

  • “Living, playing and studying here in the Home of Golf is a truly unique experience”
David Watt – Director of Golf, University of St Andrews
  • “I decided to start supporting the University of St Andrews golf programs about five years ago. I thought I could help make a difference for these programs by financially helping you start a golf donor program. I'm very proud that you have used my funds to create a Saints Golf Website to help you get the word out.”

  • “The golf programme they have at St Andrews is a great option for players who want top level academics but do not want to compromise on the quality of the golf programme - it's a special opportunity to be a student athlete in the Home of Golf.”
    Claude Harmon III
  • “As a parent of a student presently attending St Andrews and playing for Saints Golf, I cannot imagine another University anywhere being able to offer a better golfing and educational experience than the one my son is receiving.”
